CURATION

Another buzzword in our industry is “Curation”. As those who follow this blog may already know, curation is a subject that I have been interested in for quite some time. It’s also a term that, like gamification, is getting misinterpreted quite often.

Curation is about replacing the noise of ever-increasing information with the clarity of context. It’s about blocking out what isn’t relevant so that you can focus on what you need. There are many different layers to curation, which makes it hard to settle on a single definition of what is, and is not, curation.

There are a number of people who point to “curation software” or “curation algorithms” that can automate the curation process. I’ve always disagreed with this definition of curation. For me, curation requires the intervention of a person. A computer can effectively filter data so that it is easier to find what you’re looking for, but it can only take you so far. A curator doesn’t just filter; a curator builds context around shared information to increase its relevance, often forming connections between seemingly unrelated pieces of information. When I think about curation as a skill for learning and development professionals, I don’t see it simply as delivering what you need to help you do what you do today; I see it as a way of exposing workers to new ideas that expand their interests and skill sets. That’s a piece of the equation that is too often left out of the curation discussion.

Not all links to "News" is positive; sometimes "news" makes one feel sick with the lack of empathy and understanding for people with dissociative identity disorder (DID) or multiple personality disorder (MPD) in the public's mind-eye. Please bear this in mind when searching the files. The annotations include pro AND anti-DID/MPD --- To multiples ... There will be Triggers! Please Take Care of Your Systems/Families.

News that is especially jarring is marked by red text.

For a general conversation of the negative the public is putting out on DID/MPD, please go further on top of this message to where it says "Multiple Mythology - Busting" I believe that the general public argues that multiplicity is not believable, but then look at how they themselves use and abuse multiplicity in formats that make them feel much better than the multiples left in the dust. Each of the mythologies mentioned can be found within about a months worth of Google Search (red letter posts) within this blog. Then in contrast LISTEN to multiples conversations and look for THEIR ACTUALrealities.

Each of the archives (under half month date) read from most current of that period to less current. Newest additions to the news are always after 7 pm.

We're going to leave ourselves a little marker to remember which blog we left off on reading. Generally, what we do as time allows - is start from the last blog read (the person had to have written within one week) and then we go down the alphabetical list or/ according to posting day/time and then on to the next and next as time allows.

We're thinking this is our Insider's Neighborhood (IN) and we're just having walks and visits. :) We keep houses/blogs on the block/roll until up to the time they are 12 months without having written - after it says one year, we take them off the list. We are very happy to put any blog back on the list once the writer starts writing again. Sorry just a matter of practicality. It is a long block by virtue of any-aged tennis shoes.
